  • How can I keep red roses nice and fresh until giving them as a Christmas gift?

    roses 16.10.2010 5 Comments

I am going to have roses delivered to my house, then hand deliver those roses to my girlfriend on Christmas. Since the flower delivery service doesn’t deliver on Christmas, I am having them delivered early on the 24th….how can I keep these roses nice and fresh so they won’t be wilted or withered when I present them to my girlfriend on Christmas?
these are 12 long stemmed red roses in a vase

  • How do I keep flowers fresh for 24 hours?

    Flowers 04.10.2010 4 Comments

I am planning to buy flowers this Friday to give to my date on Saturday. I need to pick them up around 2pm on Friday because I will be busy from then until when I see her the next day. Will the flowers go bad in 24 hours? Should I do anything to keep them fresh, like put them in a vase or cut the stems a special way? Any help is appreciated, I will choose the best answer.
They are yellow roses, if that helps.

  • How do I plant cut roses to make a new bush?

    roses 27.09.2010 4 Comments

I have growths coming off of my cut roses that are in a vase. All the growths are between 1-2 inches and coming off the 5th-7th leaf segment under the blossom.

  • Why do roses start die/bend after a day in a vase?

    roses 10.09.2010 9 Comments

I never really understand why when you get a beautiful arrangement of long stem roses, after about a day in a vase with water they start to bend at the neck or seem like they are about to die. It totally sucks!(urgh) Does it mean they were at their end when they were purchased, they were a bad batch to begin with or some other reason? I would really like to know in order to avoid this from happening in the future. Anyone who knows about roses?

  • How do roses do in cold temperature?

    roses 07.09.2010 4 Comments

I want to leave some roses on a friend’s doorstep tomorrow. The low temp for tomorrow is projected at 40 degrees. So assuming worst case scenario and saying maybe she doesn’t get them for a few hours, how would roses do in a vase with water at that temperature?

  • How best to leave roses at the cemetery?

    roses 17.08.2010 1 Comment

My mother passed away three months ago, and this is my first Mother’s Day without her. In keeping with tradition, at least for this year, I would like to bring her the same huge bouquet of roses that I have brought her every year in the past.

I don’t want to simply leave the roses lying down on the ground, and a vase would too easily be knocked over by the wind and possibly broken.

Any suggestions on how best to leave roses at the cemetery? I asked my local florist for ideas, but she came up blank.

  • Why do earwigs live in roses? I always remove at least one 'wig off each rose prior to bringing in the rose.

I learned to carefully check each rose that I cut – either bud or flowered – before arranging them in a vase. It’s really weird; the ‘wigs really love to live in the roses, between the petals. I know ‘wigs are harmless, but UGH! Talk about beauty and the beast! lol.

  • How do you arrange roses without a vase?

    roses 21.05.2010 4 Comments

Well I bought roses just today, and I just bought it regular, with no vase, or leaves. Just roses with about a 10" stem., in a plastic, bouquet. Im wondering how can you arrange them so, that we wouldn’t need a vase. I was thinking about tying the end with a ribbon, but It wouldnt look verygood.
Oh yeah, I put them in a small container filled with water, and flower food, so they can last long till tomorrow.
