  • What are some good perennial flowers for a raised bed in my yard?

    Flowers 31.10.2010 2 Comments

I have been using the spot for burning brush and cardboard, but I want to pretty up my yard, so I am going to put a raised flower bed there instead. It gets sun almost all day. I just want some pretty flowers, hopefully easy to grow, that I won’t have to re-plant each year.

  • How do I move my miniature roses?

    roses 24.10.2010 4 Comments

I just moved into a new house and the lady that lived here before me has several mini roses planted in the back yard along the fence line that I would like to move to a different location but I’m not sure what to do. I live in southeast Louisiana, the bushes are each about a foot tall with a few long shoots. They appear to be climbers and have not yet bloomed. I want to move them to the front of the house so that they can climb the bricks. This area is shaded in the morning and gets full sun as the day goes on. Any tips on preparing the new bed as well as how to actually get them to climb the wall would be helpful too!

  • I need easy flowers and plants to put in an entrance walkway?

    Flowers 05.09.2010 6 Comments

We just bought our house last summer and we are totally clueless to landscaping. There is a flower bed about 6×1 right outside the entrance walkway. Ofcourse there is nothing but weeds in it right now but I would like to put something in there that is easy to maintain that can resist alot of direct sun. We’re in Texas and temps can get up to 105. Any ideas? Also, do I plant seeds or the flowers you get in the little containers. Much detail is requested as I have no idea what to do.

  • My roses are not flowering. How do people get there rose bushes to bloom all summer?

    roses 28.07.2010 3 Comments

I bought 5 rose bushes. 3 are really small and the other two are 3 feet in height. One of the large ones had a rose on it when I bought it. Since then the flower died and I have not seen any new flowers on any of the plants since. All of my plants are in full sun. Is there some kind of plant food it needs? Some kind of trick? I see roses bloom for people all summer long. I want that to happen.

  • How do I care for my miniature roses indoors?

    roses 25.06.2010 2 Comments

I have done some research on the subject, but I would like to know of some personal experiences regarding how to keep these roses healthy, especially during months with less sun. What growing conditions work well for miniature roses? Mine are just not blooming again.

  • What are good flowers to start with for a novice gardener?

    Flowers 15.05.2010 5 Comments

Hello. I have sandy soil, live in Michigan, zone 5. The area I want flowers in is about 6×10. The area gets full sun all day and most sun after 2pm. House faces west, the flowers are to be in the front of the house. What flowers are really easy to start with, and what combinations should I use. Any really good websites anyone knows of could help too.

  • What flowers/plants to plant between now and the fall in Wisconsin?

    Flowers 07.05.2010 5 Comments

We just moved and there is no type of landscaping in the yard. I would like to plant some flowers or flowering shrubs in the front and back. The front gets quite a bit of sun and the back is pretty shady. I am in Kenosha, which is southeastern Wisconsin, in the MidWest. I really like hydrangeas and dahlias, but don’t know anything about planting, care, etc. Please any advice for an extreme novice on a budget. Thanks a lot!
