Special Ways to Celebrate Father’s Day

There are many ways to make Dad’s day special indeed.

Handmade gift ideas and activities to make this Father’s Day special.

    fathers day gift ideas

The third Sunday in June is a special day that is set aside to honor our fathers and the other special men (stepfathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, etc.) in our lives. You have probably heard the saying "The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach." This Father’s Day you can make that saying come true. Plan a barbecue and make and bottle some homemade barbecue sauce for dad. (Go to Father’s Day craft for instructions) Invite family as well as friends who are close to your dad or just let it be you and your dad. For dessert, set up an ice cream sundae bar. No dessert could be simpler than the ice cream sundaea scoop of ice cream, a sweet topping, a dollop of whipped cream, and a cherry at the top. Provide a variety of flavors of ice cream (make sure that Dad’s favorite flavor is there) and toppings (crushed cookies, small candies, sprinkles, nuts, crumbled candy bars fruit toppings, hot fudge, caramel topping, chocolate syrup, whipped cream, and maraschino cherries).

    Things to Do with Dad
With children, make a list of things that they can do with their dads or other special men in their lives (fly a kite, plant a vegetable garden, lie underneath the stars, build a birdhouse, play catch, make popcorn and watch a favorite video, pack a picnic, go for a bike ride, read a book or spend time on the computer together, etc.).

    Treasure Hunt
Take a walk and pick up as many neat treasures as you can find while you are walking (like bottle caps and bits of wire). Make a picture with your findings and add some glue. Place it inside a frame with no glass.

    Father’s Day Cards
If you’re having some trouble choosing a card, why not make one yourself? A handmade card or note from the heart speaks more of your feelings than the store bought variety. We have several card patterns from which to choose on our site.

    Father’s Day Coupons
Make a book of tickets that Dad can redeem for things like "One board game with me" or "One free hug." For a special presentation, wrap them up in a small box and tie with ribbon or yarn.

    Games Day
Have a Games Day. Get together with a few other people and play games. Each person brings a favorite board game to share or picks an outdoor game everyone can have fun with like soccer or croquet.

    fathers day gift baskets

Crown Dad King for the Day
Have children make Dad a crown. Get a big sheet of paper and draw a crown shape. Decorate it with glitter, yarn, ribbon, pom-poms, fancy buttons, sequins, or whatever you have on hand and staple it together.

This article describes the beginning and meaning behind Father’s Day and offer tips for finding the perfect Father’s Day Gifts for your dad and the father of your children. Some of the ideas include Golf Gifts, Personalized Father’s Day Gifts, Men’s Jewelry and Father’s Day Gift Baskets.  This is just a reminder to him that he is a special person and a significant part of the family.

Every man will experience the joys of Father’s Day beginning at one point in their lives. There are many different ways that you can celebrate this day with that special man in your life, whether it is your husband or even your own father. Many people will say that it is difficult to shop for their dad but if you let your heart guide you, you will surely find the right gift for dad.

How Father’s Day came to be is still not really known but there is a very early record of a boy in Babylon who had made a Father’s Day card for his dad which he made with clay. This was over four thousand years ago and on the card he wished his dad a long and healthy life. Boys loved their dads that long ago. Just think of your child doing something like that for you. The emotions that you feel are certain to be overwhelming particularly consider the primitive tools the boy had at his disposal during the time.

There is no documentation of what happened to this child or to his father but this simple gesture sparked a tradition around the world that we now know to be Father’s Day. It is a day when people all around the world honor their fathers. People should understand first and foremost that life is short and our time on this earth is limited. Everyone should enjoy the time that they have with their dads now because there is no telling when life can be cut short or the flame that is life will die away with the onset of disease or memory loss.

There are many places that you can shop or go to for gift ideas for Father’s Day. Some things that you might consider as gifts for dad could be Golf Gifts if your dad is a big golf buff. To name a few of the themes, there is one called the beer lover gift basket which needs no explanation. A hunter gift basket for the men who love hunting, tool gift baskets for men who are into tools (what man is not into tools right?). There are also golfing gift baskets for the golf lover and sports gift baskets for the sports fanatic. Camping gift baskets are a hit for men who love the outdoors and there are also fishing gift baskets. Finally, for the dads who are couch potatoes there is of course, the TV watching gift baskets! Yes folks, they even have a gift basket for that!

No worrying about shipping details if your dad lives further away from you, these guys will take care of it for you!

You should be sure to have your shopping done for that special dad in your life now so that you can relax and not have to worry about rushing around to find that perfect gift for him. Many sites out there on the internet offer the shop now and deliver by Father’s Day option. If you shop this way, you do not have to worry that the gift that you wish to give that special someone will be sold out or if you are having something engraved then you want to be sure that the person who is doing the engraving will have the time to complete the work. But if you find yourself in trouble there are last minute gifts options available.

Here is to making Father’s Day a very special day for your father or for the man who is the father of your children. Make the best of this day and honor this man for as we have seen so many times in life, it is fleeting and we should squeeze every drop of happiness from each and every day. To the dads in the audience today, I say happy Father’s Day to you! Salute!

    Father’s Day

Dad, This Is For You!  I couldn’t have said this better myself.

    Father's Day

Maternity is certainty; paternity is hearsay.

    What a glorification?!

Mother carries the infant in her womb. This is visible to the world. Hence that is the certainty.

Father does not have a womb; ‘Creator’ made it a woman’s privilege. So his genes are hearsay.

Universe sings praises of mother. She is irreplaceable. Not that father is.
Mother’s shoulders can take the additional responsibility of father. But, can never become a father. Vice versa does not hold good. Of course, exceptions prove the rule.

Single parenting is not desired by the child. It is forced upon. It does not have a say. Death snatches father; It may be fate or destiny. Child’s grief is consolable. It will resign to fate. Separation, divorce or illegitimacy is too much for the child to take. Child suffers silently for no fault. On maturity, it gets rebellious or withdrawn in to its shell. It is an unpardonable sin to deprive or snap the father-child bond.

Complete and healthy growth and personality development of the child rests on both parents. Almighty decided to have two parents for each child. Surely he may have reasons to it. ‘His’ decision is to be respected and honored. Mother has natural advantages over father. This is the game of providence.

Presence of father is essential in rearing a child. Child favors plural; not singular. Children need parents; not parent. Morals are derived from both. First few months of baby are mom’s sole responsibility; Dad cannot do much. That is Nature’s way. Child begins to recognize and understand mom and dad; both are sought by the child. Child is incomplete without either.

It feels safe and secured with father’s presence. Papa is special. No one can take his place. Certain duties are designed for father. Some are tailor made. He takes the responsibility to carry out all those in total dedication and sincerity. After all, it is towards his own blood. He feels proud.

Love between father and child is each other’s prerogative. This does not permit anyone or anything to come in between. For most teens, dad is a role model.

One parent cannot play a dual role to perfection. They are two separate individuals. Father is a father; Mother cannot become one. Gays or lesbians cannot produce a baby. Ovules by themselves cannot create a life. Their union with ’sperms’ formulates a baby. This meeting for mating explains everything.

Father is unparalleled as mother. He shares the same pedestal with the mother of his kids. Father joins his kids and world in showering praises and appreciation on the mother. In the chorus, distinctly heard is his voice!

Father, you are great. A small but fitting tribute is ‘FATHER’S DAY‘.

Responsible and legitimate fathers must take pride in this unique day. These twenty four hours belong to them. Irresponsible and illegitimates must take the cue to reform and turn a new leaf. It’s better late than never. Also, it’s never late to build this special bond. But then, earlier the better.

HAIL PAPA!! Three cheers to you.

    Father’s day for father

Father’s Day is one of those holidays that many times fall by the wayside.  We always remember Mom on her special day, but many times, Father’s Day is just another Sunday in June.  Maybe this year, you could make this a special day for him.

Father’s Day. The day the world celebrates fatherhood. Does it call for celebration? Yes…but with a difference. Usually, on other festive days, it is your dad who does all the groundworkputting up the decorations, buying the goodies, and generally ensuring that you have a great time. But this is Father’s Day His day. And so, this time, it is up to you to make it a special day for him.

Yes, it may seem difficult at first. Because generally it is dad’s department to think about others; to plan and organise things to make everyone happy. He is after all, the provider. And, in any case, what can you give your dad, who may have given you everything you have? Well, here are some things that you can do.

    Pamper your dad

Usually it is your dad who treats you like a little king. Today you can pamper him a bit. Surprise him by treating him to a scrumptious breakfast in bed. Make sure you include his favourite dishes. (You will probably need to brief mom about your plans in advance as you will need her help.) Include the morning newspaper in the breakfast tray, and for once, ensure that it is crisp and not crumpled- the way he likes to read it.

    fathers day gift

Let this be a Sunday with a difference. Do not monopolise the TV remote, skip the cartoons if you know he wants to watch another channel. You know how hard your dad works throughout the week. Do not choose his afternoon nap hour to blast the radio. And do not corner the phone so that he is compelled to beg you to let him use it.

Are there household chores your dad attends to, like bathing the dog, catching up on the gardening, washing the car, or shopping for supplies? Volunteer to take them on or at least help him with them. Also, for a change, let him decide the itinerary for the day ahead.

    Make him a card

What is the best card you can give your dad? Something he will treasure long after you have even forgotten you gave it to him? Well, it would have to be one that you crafted with your own hands. All you will need is a piece of card paper, pens, pencils, and some creativity.

Write out a personal message for him. Never mind the prose, pour your heart out, and tell him why you think he is the best dad in the world. Remind him about special family occasions that you enjoyed or recount an incident when he did something that really touched you. Employ your drawing skills, stick in pictures from the family album, and embellish the card with ribbons or trinkets. And then watch him beam with pride as he shows off your card to all his friends.

    Give him a gift

Buy your dad a special Father’s Day gift. You know your dad best. Buy him something related to his hobbies or something he likes to do. If he loves to read, buy him a book that you know he will love.
If he is fond of photography, you can gift him a camera accessory or some film rolls.

    Give him your time

We return to the original question, "What can you give your dad, who has given you everything you have?" Well, give him something he cannot give himselfyour time and love.

Spend this one day with him, the way he would love to. If you have always been finding excuses to avoid playing chess with him, give him the pleasure of a game with you. Plan an outing to the newly opened gallery that he has been talking about. Postpone an evening out with your friends to accompany him to a gathering of his old friends across town.

If you find him giving you a puzzled look, father’s day tell him today is his day after all, and that you want him to enjoy it as much as he can. Even if he acts completely nonchalant about it,

If you are wondering how Memorial Day got started and what the holiday weekend means, this is what you need to read.

How To Celebrate Memorial Day This Year

Memorial Day is celebrated by friends and family sending free e-cards to each other. They do this as a way of keeping in touch and remembering each other. Many millions of free e-cards are sent each year to celebrate this special event.

Memorial Day is largely devoted to venerating those who perished during their service and recognizing our collective debt and mourning at their loss. Founded shortly following the conclusion of the Civil War, at the repeated suggestion of a pharmacist from Waterloo, New York that flowers and other commemorative objects be brought to the graves of deceased soldiers. This commemoration was established as Decoration Day, a time for recognizing the losses resulting from the Civil War and became officially recognized and widely adopted as of May 5, 1868.

It is a time for the emotional exploration of death for a cause and honoring the character and commitment of all the soldiers who fell throughout this country’s distinguished military history, whether they were amateurs fighting for their convictions during the Civil War or thoroughly trained military operatives such as those who secured the victory of World War II.

Decoration Day was renamed Memorial Day in 1882, which extended the remembrance to all American soldiers who gave their lives for their country. Memorial Day was declared a national holiday to be observed on the last Monday of May in 1971.

Memorial Day, or Decoration Day as it is still alternately called, is commemorated around the country with ceremonial observances, including placing the flags adorning all public building and government offices at half-staff.

There is an annual gathering of veterans, citizens, and interested parties that takes place over Memorial Day weekend at the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C. Speeches and presentations commending the Armed Forces, their role in securing peace and national security, and the national debt of the living to those that have died for those noble causes.

If you know a family that has lost someone in a war fought by the United States, take Memorial Day as an opportunity to share your condolences for their loss as well as your gratitude for that contribution. You may be familiar with someone who has the distinction of being a veteran, for whom this occasion also merits special recognition.

Go to a local cemetery to decorate the graves of soldiers with flowers, wreaths, and other appropriate symbols of mourning. Or, delve into military history, become aware of current military trends and possible threats, and learn about wars of the past as part of your own Memorial Day observance.

Because Memorial Day is a federal holiday and most Americans have a day off, the three day weekend is also a time for enjoying the summer with barbeques, picnics, family time, and brief trips out of town, for instance to go to the beach, visit friends and relatives, or just to get away from it all.

So remember your friends and loved ones this Memorial Day by sending them a free e-card. Ecards are so easy to send and they help people to stay in touch. Send a free e-card and make somebody happy this Memorial Day.

You can also send a nice floral arrangement in tribute to these fallen heroes.

    Memorial Day is for Patriots

Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes called Memorial Day, “our most respected holiday,” and urged that “we not ponder with sad thoughts the passing of our heroes but rather ponder their legacy – the life they made possible for us.

    Memorial Day Remembrance

Contrary to popular belief, Memorial Day is much more than a three-day weekend that marks the beginning of summer. To many people, especially the nation’s thousands of combat veterans, this day has a history stretching all the way back to the Civil War and is an important reminder of those who died in the service of their country.

    Memorial Day Decorations

With Memorial Day (U.S.) approaching, some readers may be curious as to the meaning behind this holiday. Specifically, how does Memorial Day differ from Veterans Day? Or perhaps you’ll be using Memorial Day Decorations for the first time.

Memorial Day is a day of remembrance, not just the day the pool opens.  Think of these quotes as a reminder of what freedom is all about and those who died to protect it.

14 Patriotic Quotes To Honor Those We Remember On Memorial Day

Patriotic quotes are some of the most inspiring and motivating quotes of all time. On the last Monday of each May we honor the men and women who have died in service to our great country — a day that has become known as Memorial Day. This Memorial Day, let’s remember these noble and honorable souls with these 14 patriotic quotes.

    1. "The legacy of heroes is the memory of a great name and the inheritance of a great example." ~ Benjamin Disraeli

    14. "And I’m proud to be an American, where at least I know I’m free. And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me. And I’ll proudly stand up next to you and defend her still today, ‘cuz there ain’t no doubt I love this land, god bless the USA." ~ Lee Greenwood

This Memorial Day, let us remember that our freedom did not come without a price. Without the sacrifices of the many brave men and women who died for our nation, we would not enjoy the liberty we know today. Let these fourteen patriotic quotes serve as a reminder of that fact.

    Memorial Day Tribute
     by: Steven Boaze

Memorial Day is their day, isn’t it? It supposed to be the day a grateful nation pauses to quietly thank the more than one million men and women who have died in military service to their country since the revolutionary war.

Or is it the day the beach resorts kick into high gear for the summer season, the day the strand is covered by fish-belly white people bastings themselves in coconut oil, the day the off season rates end and the weekend you can’t get in a seaside seafood restaurant with anything less than a hour wait.

Or is it one of the biggest shopping center sales day of the year, a day when hunting for a parking space is the prime sport for the holiday stay-at homers?

Or is it the weekend when more people will kill themselves on the highways than any other weekend and highway patrol troopers work overtime picking up the pieces?

I think the men and women who died for us would understand what we do with their day. I hope they would, because if they wouldn’t, if they would have insisted that it be a somber, respectful day of remembrance, then we have blown it and dishonored their sacrifice.

I knew some of those who died and the guys I knew would have understood.

They liked a sunny beach and a cold beer and a hot babe in a black bikini too. they would have enjoyed packing the kids, the inflatable rafts, the coolers, and the suntan lotion in the car and heading for the lake. they would have enjoyed staying at home and cutting the grass and getting together with some friends and cooking some steaks on the grill too.

But they didn’t get the chance. they blew up in the marine barracks in beirut and died in the oily waters of the persian gulf. they caught theirs at the airstrip in grenada in the little war everyone laughed at. they bought the farm in the drang valley and on heartbreak ridge, phu tai and at the hue. they froze at the chosin reservoir and were shot at the pusan perimeter. guadal canal. they died in the ice and snow of the bulge and the vosges mountains. they were at the somme and san juan hill and at gettysburg and at cerro gordo and at valley forge.

They couldn’t be here with us today, but think they would understand that we don’t spend the day in tears and heart- -wrenching memorials. they wouldn’t want that. grief is not why they died. they died so we could go fishing. they died so another father could toss a baseball to his son in their backyard while the charcoal is getting white. they died so another buddy could drink a beer on his day off. they died so a family could get in the minivan and go shopping and maybe get some ice cream on the way home. they died so that the same family could worship in their own way in a church of their choosing.

They won’t mind that we have chosen their day to have our first big outdoor party of the year. but they wouldn’t mind, either, if we took just a few minutes and thought of them.

Some will think of them formally, of course. wreaths will be laid in small sparsely attended ceremonies in military cemeteries and at monuments aT state capitals and in small town squares. flags will fly over the graves, patriotic words will be spoken and a few people there will probably feel a little anger that no more people showed up. they’ll think no one else remembers.

But we do remember. we remember smitty and chico, and davey and the guys who died. we remember the deal we made: if we buy it, we said, " Drink a Beer for Me "

I’ll do it for you guys. I’ll drink that beer for you today and I’ll sit on that beach for you, and check out the girls for you, and just briefly, I’ll think of you. I won’t let the memory of your tragic death spoil the trip but you’ll be on that sunny beach with me today.

I will not mourn your deaths this Memorial Day, my Friends. Rather I’ll celebrate the life you gave me.
